12th Hollywood Black Film Festival Announces Opening and Closing Night Films

Tanya Kersey, Founder and Executive Director for The Hollywood Black Film Festival (HBFF) announced  will open the 12th Hollywood Black Film Festival on Thursday, October 25, 2011, 7pm, at the Montalban Theater, 1615 Vine Street, Hollywood, CA. The festival will close with 24 Hour Love on Sunday, October 28 at 6 pm at the same location. HBFF 2012 runs October 25-28 in Hollywood, CA.

Well-Play Announces New Community Partnerships for Keep Move’N Program

Today, Well-Play is proud to announce the addition ofT.H.E. (To Help Everyone) Clinic, Inc., Veg-It-Up Restaurant and 102.3 KJLH Radio as community partners for the Keep Move’N program.

These organizations are helping to raise awareness about the program, which officially launches on Saturday, September 8, 2012. From 4 p.m.- 8 p.m., over 2000 youth will descend upon The Tabernacle (located at 321 N. Eucalyptus Avenue, Inglewood, CA 90301) for a day of interactive games, healthy food, fitness and dancing.

Dr. Didra Brown Taylor partners with black owned beauty shops across the country to address health disparities in African American women.

Of all minority groups, African-Americans have the most, and many times the largest, differences in health risks when compared to other minority groups. African-Americans have more disease, disability, and early death as well. African American women are becoming more at risk of developing high blood pressure and diabetes. Yet, both can be prevented.The Black Beauty Shop Health Outreach Program, headed by Dr. Didra Brown Taylor, has taken on the challenge to address health disparities among African American women, right where they are, in the beauty shop.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline (NDVH) has launched a powerful 30-second public service announcement (PSA) to continue raising awareness and increasing education about domestic abuse, starring, Tanya Young Williams.  The PSA, released to television network media, print media and internet media, was launched in recognition of October’s designation as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
