Black Speculative Arts Movement is honored to be hosting our traveling afrofuturism and comic book convention at the historical Leimert Park Village in Los Angeles this June. BSAM will be held in multiple spaces at the village, including The Vision Theatre, KAOS Network, and People’s Street Park. The convention will be an official parnt of Art Walk.

Although we mostly focus on afrofuturism at our other events, BSAM L.A. is excited to focus primarily on film. The convention will include MECCAcon International Film Festival, aka MECCAcon IFF, QnA from multiple filmmakers and actors, workshops, and more. Our main films will be showcased at night at People’s Street park.

Afrofuturism, astroblackness, black comic books, speculative fiction, black cosplay, and social injustice will also be included. There will be many presentations from known scholars, artists, publicists, and professors from across the country.

In this sip + sew you will make your custom fitted gathered skirt in a quaint Hollywood studio on the famous Hollywood BLVD. over light brunch, tea and mimosas! You will learn how to sew, and leave with a beautiful skirt and photos of you in front on the Hollywood Hills.

All supplies are provided, but you get the extra benefit of understanding how to adjust garments to fit your specific body.

Whether you have big hips, a big butt, no butt, long legs or short legs; I know what to do to flatter your body type with certain fabrics, prints, and sewing techniques. You go home with a skirt and the skills to keep on sewing.

This class is great for beginners, no expereince needed. Only 4 people at a time, so you get lots of special attention.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

I am located across from the train station, with many bus stops in the area. There is free street parking, but it is hard to find. I recommend Uber or public transport for guest traveling within the local area due to metered parking.

You may bring your own fabric if you do not want to be limited to my own collection of fabric.

Like its predecessor, The Requiem for Sandra Bland, un::fade::able is an effort to keep Sandra Bland’s voice & legacy alive through education, music and poetry, all revolving around topics of: the safety of black lives, the criminal justice system, and police brutality. Art Share LA will host this poetry reading series and workshops, cruated by F. Douglas Brown, and assisted by a team of educators, community organizers, poets and musicians. We will never forget the events that took the life of Sandra Bland, and that continue to scourge our communities. In her name, we ACT.

On behalf of the National Black Law Students Association, Western Region (WRBLSA), we cordially invite you to participate in the Annual WRBLSA Los Angeles Job Fair. The 2017 WRBLSA Los Angeles Job Fair will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at UCLA Law School.

Established in 1968, the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) is the largest student-run organization in the United States, with over 200 chapters at law schools throughout the country, and more than 6,500 active members. NBLSA seeks to promote and articulate the professional needs and goals of black law students. The Western Region is comprised of 35 chapters across Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. The Western Region has approximately 350 active dues paying members.

The Western Regional Job Fair is not only an excellent opportunity for organizations to take a proactive approach towards diversity, but it is also beneficial as a recruiting tool for organizations to seek exceptional law students from across the nation. Last year, twenty employers participated in the 2016 WRBLSA Job Fair.

This year, we seek to expand the Job Fair by including more employers from a range of practice areas. Please join us in our efforts to increase the number of talented and diverse students entering the legal profession.
