Race To College 5k Family Fun’d Run @ Los Angeles Southwest College

Please join Green Dot and the Asociación de Maestros Unidos (AMU) in our annual 5k Family Fun’d’ Run and Wellness Fair!

Funds raised will go towards The Race to College Scholarship, awarded to a Green Dot California high school senior in May during our Launch to College Senior Send Off Event!

Grab your walking/running shoes and join us for a morning of exercise and fun for the whole family. Your registration includes cost of your race T-shirt, a contribution to the scholarship, and a raffle ticket to win amazing health and wellness prizes!

It infuses many styles of dance with strength training and conditioning exercises guaranteed to give you a fabulous sweat sesh. Classes are every Sunday from 10am – 11am and admission is$15 per person. Class packages are also available.

The Pepperdine Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP) welcomes back Dr. Cornel West, professor, philosopher, author, and activist, who is now a visiting professor at Pepperdine GSEP for the Spring semester. Dr. West’s lecture, Prophetic Fire, is open to the public and will encourage attendees to live and inspire through more than ordinary means. His melodic words often soothe, yet his content drills down to the most salient point of the issues of our day.

Dr. West’s lecture is part of the Margaret J. Weber Distinguished Lecture Series at GSEP. The 2017-2018 Weber Distinguished Lecture Series theme is Civility: The Intersection of Faith, Intellect, and Culture.

2nd Annual Natural-WE Community Hair Show @ City Banquet Hall

The Natural-We Community Hair Show is a cultural event that celebrates the beauty of African American/Africana hair and raising money towards a cause. Founded by T.J. Robinson, Ph.D. student at Claremont Graduate University and adjunct professor at several colleges and universities in the Los Angeles area, the Natural- We Community Hair Show celebrates the natural hair of Black people or peoples of African descent globally. In addition, the Natural-We Community Hair Show is a fundraiser to support a Black organization or school in their efforts to build, empower and heal Black people. This year 50% of the proceeds will go to Children Striving Together, a non-profit youth organization in Compton, CA.
